A Wine Tradition Three Centuries in the Making
Let an expert viticulturist regale you with a rundown of the fermentation process and a tale of the Carter family’s wine history dating back to 1762. This guided vineyard and winery tour will take about an hour, and allows you free time to wander at your leisure — along with a provided cheese and meat picnic basket to enjoy on the grounds. Sample local Virginia cheeses, cured meats, chutney, and an assortment of chocolates for a taste that’s truly indulgent.
Escape to the Philip Carter Winery in the beautiful Virginia Piedmont countryside for an educational and romantic afternoon! Begin your experience with a guided vineyard and winery tour by a certified Philip Carter Wine Educator. You will learn the history of the Carter family wines that date back to 1762. Following the tour is a wine education and appreciation class in the King Carter Suite focusing on the fermentation process and wine terms. The Vintage Virginia Tasting was, developed exclusively by Philip Carter. From the directive of Acte 12 in Colonial Williamsburg in 1619 to the opening ceremonies of Philip Carter Winery in 2008, wine in Virginia was a foregone conclusion. Through an in depth look at wine spanning over four centuries in Virginia, this experience provides insight, history and taste. The Vintage Virginia Tasting features wines from key vineyards across Virginia that tells a beautiful story of culture, purpose and promise spanning 400 years of Virginia wine. We invite you to Taste History, and share the history of wine excellence celebrated in Virginia. This tasting is conducted in The Tavern of the Inn. Reservations required, $240 flat rate, 12 guests maximum.

Enjoy a massage in the comfort of your own guest room while staying at The Inn at Vineyards Crossing. One of our massage therapists will set up their message table in the comfort of your guestroom, provide music and aroma’s to make your massage truly enjoyable in the retreat of the Inn. Select from Swedish, Shiatsu, Deep-Tissue or Rake Massage styles for $105 for a 60-minute experience. Book a massage for both of you and receive both massages for $200. Massage can also be had pool-side, next to the pool-side fountains under the warmth of the sun.

Enjoy the out-west atmosphere with back-east convenience for some of the finest western-style horseback riding in the area. Located just five minutes from the Inn, the Marriott Ranch offers a variety of horse-related activities, none more popular than our ninety-minute trail rides across parts of our beautiful 4,200-acre working cattle ranch. Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, riders will enjoy themselves whether riding through pastures, across creeks, in peaceful woods or among grazing cattle.

Welcome to Front Royal Outdoors, offering self-guided canoe, solo kayak, tandem kayak, 4 & 6 person raft, tube, fishing kayak and stand-up paddleboard trips on the South Fork of the legendary Shenandoah River. Our trips are perfect for the individual, family, or group. River trips flow north between the Shenandoah National Park and the George Washington National Forest and are designed for your enjoyment on novice to intermediate class waters. No matter which trip you choose, once you arrive at our office, all the equipment and your shuttle service to the river is provided. While floating the normally crystal clear water on this beautiful section of the South Fork of the Shenandoah River you will experience moving water with a few riffles and small waves (Class I) and a couple areas of easy rapids with waves up to 3 feet with wide, clear channels (Class II). We also offer some of the finest smallmouth Bass fishing in the Mid-Atlantic region. During the Tour, participants will enjoy stunning views of the Massanutten Mountains and the gorgeous hardwood forest of the Shenandoah Valley. Guests will learn the rich history of the Shenandoah Valley, native plant species, and the wild inhabitants who make the woods their home. Participants will soar through the Shenandoah hardwood forest at speeds which can exceed 40 miles per hour and at heights reaching 90 feet above the forest floor – all while attached to two steel cables. The Tour finale is an adrenaline pumping 1,035’ zip down the face of the ridge to our rappel. All participants receive individual safety and braking training and are accompanied by two certified eco-trained guides. Participants are attached to our cables by lanyards whenever above the forest floor. All safety equipment is handled by our guides 100% of the time.
