Valley View Farms

 

Immerse yourself in a weekend culinary adventure of local foods and wine in the Virginia countryside.  Enjoy gourmet meals at the Inn prepared with local meats and produce.  Experience a hands-on guided tour at one of Virginia’s oldest working family farms, shop for artisanal goods at an historic village farmer’s market, and spend part of a leisurely afternoon in a wine appreciation class at one of Virginia’s leading wineries.  Relax and dine in comfort at the Inn on Saturday evening while you learn some of the secrets of a professional kitchen, and enjoy a 3 course gourmet meal prepared by the Inn’s culinary chef. This is an experience you will remember for a lifetime. $400 per person (double occupancy required).

Friday

Arrival between 3:00-4:00 pm

4:30 pm – Chilled gourmet finger foods and a glass of local award-winning wine will be served to start off your culinary experience.

5:00-5:30 pm – The First Appetizer Demonstration begins and is expertly paired with a 2nd local wine. Observe and partake in the preparation of a gourmet artfully prepared appetizer that is sure to impress.IMG_1561

 

 

6:00-6:30 pm – The Second Appetizer Demonstration begins, expertly paired with a 3rd local wine.

7:00-8:00 pm – History of Virginia Wine: The Vintage Virginia Tasting – From the directive of Acte 12 in Colonial Williamsburg to the 250th anniversary celebration of Virginia’s first emergence onto the international stage, wine in Virginia was a foregone conclusion. Through an in depth look at wine through the centuries, this experience provides insight, history and taste. The Vintage Virginia Tasting features wines from key vineyards across Virginia that tells a beautiful story of culture, purpose and promise spanning 400 years of Virginia wine.

8:00 pm – On Your Own for the evening.

Saturday

8:30-9:30 am – Indulge in a gourmet breakfast served family style in our Main Dining Hall. Start the day with amazing breakfast sensations, which include dishes such as Southern Style French Toast. Made with local eggs from Historic Valley View Farm and hand-cut thick loaf white bread, this French toast is deep fried in pure vegetable oil, lending to a crispy outside finish and soft center, topped with butter and pure hickory syrup.

9:45 am Depart for Aspen Dale Winery.

10:00-11:00 am Aspen Dale Winery: Learn about running a small local family farm in Delaplane Virginia. Aspen Dale Winery is a farm winery.  In addition to grapes, they also grow berries and raise chickens. Enjoy seasonal produce and a beautiful scenery. Enjoy a wine tasting as well.

11:00 am – Depart for Historic Valley View Farm

 

11:30 am-12:15 pm – Tour of Historic Valley View Farm:  Established in the early 1800s and currently run by Charles and Kathy Strother, Historic Valley View Farm is the proud home of Virginia Perfection Orchard. The Farm has a 400 tree peach orchard, an apple orchard, and a limited supply of thornless blackberries as well.  The Farm is an historic tract where the Old Virginia tradition of rural living in an idyllic setting has survived.  Nestled in Crooked Run Valley in Delaplane, just south of Sky Meadows State Park, this historic 500-acre farm is recognized as the crown jewel of the Crooked Run Valley Rural Historic District, which is listed on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places.  Valley View has been recognized by leading landscape authorities as “one of the most beautiful sceneries in the world.”

12:15-1:30 pm – Experience the Behind-the-Scenes of running a large family owned, working farm while enjoying fresh picked garden samples.  Next, it’s a lite picnic lunch provided by The Inn.

1:30 pm – Depart for Philip Carter Winery.

2:00-3:30 pm – Philip Carter Winery: Wine Appreciation & Tasting 101. Discover the wonders of wine through your sense of sight, smell, taste and feel. Learn the ‘right way’ to taste and tips to basic wine and food pairing. Includes a tasting of the Philip Carter range of wines.

3:30 pm – Depart for The Inn at Vineyards Crossing.

3:35-5:00 pm – On your Own.

5:00-6:00 pm – Food Preparation Class: Learn how a professional chef prepares for an in-home dinner party in advance so they can actually enjoy the company of guests instead of being stuck in the kitchen.

6:15-7:30 pm – Three-Course Chef’s Dinner. This exclusive three-course dinner that is limited to ten guests, expertly paired by an award winning northern Piedmont winemaker, will bring your taste buds to new heights while you enjoy casual and informative conversation around the dinner table. The Chef’s approach of farm-to–table will allow you to indulge in the best of local farms, truly showcasing what Virginia has to offer.

7:30-8:30 pm – Learn about what is involved in becoming a Classically Trained Chef and what happens behind kitchen doors in epicurean restaurants with Chef Randy Beattie while enjoying a glass of Philip Carter Winery 1762 Port-style wine and fine local artisan chocolates.

Sunday

9:00-10:00 am – Indulge in a second sumptuous breakfast that may include such dishes as Virginia Eggs Benedict (shaved pan seared Virginia Ham on a toasted English muffin topped with Historic Valley View Farm poached egg and served with a traditional hollandaise sauce) or Three Berries Baked Pancake (a baked pancake topped with raspberries, blackberries and strawberries with Grade A pure maple syrup).

10:00 am – Wrap up session with Innkeeper.

11:00 am – Check out.
