Join the annual celebration of the harvest at Philip Carter with a Tidewater Virginia tradition of steamed Chesapeake Blue Crabs, fresh corn on the cob and delicious redskin potatoes. Three days and two nights in America’s Wine Country

Virginia Wine Camp ™ is a 3-day adventure in America’s wine country in the beautiful northern Piedmont of Virginia. The region extends over 50 miles, making its Piedmont climate, geography and soil characteristics ideal for producing world-class wines.

Your entire experience is $600 per person (two person minimum) that includes all of the program enhancements, and transportation on Saturday as well! Stay an additional night at the Inn adjacent to the camp dates for only $99.

You can also spend some free time visiting local spas, caverns, biking, horseback riding or just relaxing in the Inn while you enjoy one its many amenities.

The Inn at Vineyards Crossing provides a luxury experience, featuring unique en suite rooms including king size beds, private baths, premier linens and white-glove turn down service, an English garden, pool, hot tub, and an historic Tavern built in 1787, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Wine Camp Agenda

Friday

4:00pm-5:00pm – Arrival at the Inn @ 5024 Leeds Manor Road, Hume, VA 22639 w/ VIP Amenity in Room

6:00pm-7:30pm – Meet & Greet w/ Vintage Piedmont Wines. The immersion into America’s Wine Country begins upon arrival. Guests are presented with local wines and foods of Virginia’s northern Piedmont to include wines from Philip Carter, Barrel Oak, Desert Rose, Naked Mountain and Rappahannock Cellars and culinary delights prepared by Chef Josh sourced from the region’s local farms and greenhouses. Guests will receive a visit from one of the areas award winning winery owners to greet them as they begin their wine camp experience.

7:30pm-8:30pm – History of Virginia Wine: The Vintage Virginia Tasting – From the directive of Acte 12 in Colonial Williamsburg to the 250th anniversary celebration of Virginia’s first emergence onto the international stage, wine in Virginia was a foregone conclusion. Through an in depth look at wine through the centuries, this experience provides insight, history and taste. The Vintage Virginia Tasting features wines from key vineyards across Virginia that tells a beautiful story of culture, purpose and promise spanning 400 years of Virginia wine.

8:30pm – On Your Own

Saturday

8:30am – 10:00am – Breakfast. Chef Josh amazes with gourmet breakfast sensations, which include dishes such as Southern Style French Toast: Deep fried locally baked cinnamon bread served with Grade A pure maple syrup. Made with local eggs from Dark Hollow Farm and hand-cut thick loaf white bread, this French toast is deep fried in pure vegetable oil, lending to a crispy outside finish and soft center, topped with butter and pure maple syrup.

10:00am – Departure to Philip Carter Winery. Transportation is provided on Saturday.

10:30am – 12:30pm – Philip Carter Winery

From Grape to Glass Wine Series: Wine Appreciation & Tasting 101.  Discover the wonders of wine through our senses of sight, smell, taste and feel. Learn the ‘right way’ to taste and tips to basic wine and food pairing. Includes a tasting of the Philip Carter range of wines.

From Grape to Glass – Vineyard Management.  Discover the basics of wine growing and production. Led by Philip Carter’s winemaker, participants will enjoy a guided tour from vineyard to cellar and learn first-hand what it takes to travel from grape to glass. Includes a vineyard and cellar tour and a tasting of select wines in the cellar currently under production.

12:30pm – 1:30pm – Lunch at Philip Carter w/ Wine Pairing

1:30pm – Depart for Rappahannock Cellars

2:00pm-4:00pm – Rappahannock Cellars

From Grape to Glass Wine Series – The Art of Blending.  A cellar discussion of harvest parameters, grape and wine processing, fermentation and wine making techniques, and the art of blending; all taking place while tasting a variety of current vintage wines from barrel focused primarily on red wines. Session concludes with a hands on blending exercise to create a Meritage styled wine.

4:00pm – Depart to Desert Rose

4:15pm-5:30pm – Desert Rose Winery

From Grape to Glass Wine Series – Operating a Boutique Winery.  A behind the scenes look and discussion with the owner of Dessert Rose Winery on the experience of operating a boutique Virginia winery, followed by a barrel room introduction to Virginia’s newest grape – Crimson Cabernet.

5:30pm Depart for Inn at Vineyards Crossing

5:30pm-6:30pm On Your Own

7:00pm – Five-Course Winemaker’s Dinner.  This exclusive five-course dinner that is limited to ten guests, expertly paired by Winemaker Jeremy Ligon and Chef Joshua Haugh, will bring your taste buds to new heights while you enjoy casual and informative conversation around the dinner table. Chef Haugh’s approach to farm-to-table will allow you to indulge in the best the local farms have to offer, truly showcasing what Virginia has to offer.

9:30pm – Conclusion and Finale

Sunday 

10:00am – Breakfast. Indulge in a second gourmet breakfast with Chef Josh. Choose from an assortment of exquisite breakfast options that may include such dishes as Virginia Eggs Benedict (shaved pan seared Virginia Ham on a toasted English muffin topped with Dark Hollow Farm poached egg and served with a traditional hollandaise sauce) or Three Berries Baked Pancake (a baked pancake served in a cast iron pot topped with raspberries, blackberries and strawberries with Grade A pure maple syrup).

11:00am – Depart to Naked Mountain with a stop at Dark Hollow Farm to Shop Local Products. Dark Hollow Farm in Markham, Virginia, raises their pigs naturally from birth to finish on their land. They root in our woods and are fed the best food they can source for them. Primarily they are fed produce waste, corn, bread, and seasonally gleaned fruit. They use a certified humane processor when it is time to harvest the hogs so they are never stressed and are always treated with respect. Dark Hollow’s laying hens are “true” free range birds. They go where they want and eat what they find. They do not feed them until the dead of winter. You will see the difference immediately when you crack open the eggs. Food value and flavor are what this is all about with the hogs and the eggs.

11:30am – 1:30pm – Naked Mountain Winery –From Glass to Grape Wine Series: The Art of Stemware. Take an artful look at the design and history of stemware used to experience wine throughout the centuries. Determine your own personal preference in vessels to enjoy life’s most perfect beverage.

1:30pm – Depart to Barrel Oak

2:00pm – 3:00pm – Barrel Oak Winery

From Glass to Grape Wine Series: The Science of Smell. Guests will test their sense of smell and develop an understanding of the olfactory evaluation process to analyze different smells. The class includes a VIP Tasting experience of Barrel Oak wines and tour of the production area, followed by an artisanal boxed lunch on the patio.

3:30pm – Conclusion.
